We are finally announcing our in development dungeon crawl, Din's Curse, today. You can read the game's description and feature list on the Din's Curse overview page (http://www.soldak.com/Dins-Curse/Overview.html).

Congrats on the announcement! And congrats on coming up with a name. I know it was a "long and hard" process (porn sounding reference intentional).

Reading a feature list like this just makes me even more excited about the game. I got chills going through the sentence that starts "Quell uprisings...", because it sort of encapsulates what sounds so great about it. Not only is there a lot of stuff, but I won't know WHICH stuff I'm in for each time I play. THAT'S gonna be cool.

I'm still amused that the game's initials didn't change when going from dungeon crawl to Din's Curse.

Ha! Didn't even notice that.

I see that the email announcement gives a (rough) estimated release in Q4. Cool. I've been wondering about that, but didn't dare hazard a guess. I imagine testing a game with this many randomized, interlocking elements is going to be pretty arduous. Good luck!

Any idea, yet, whether it will run on a Power Mac with OS X 10.3.9 (your other games do!)?

Can't wait! I'm willing to help with alpha/beta if you are accepting applications :)

Technically the plan is late Q4 right now.

I don't think we have changed anything that prevents the game from running on OS X 10.3.9.

I don't even know what we are doing for beta yet. :)

Hi,

I joined up to post this message after seeing the announcement about the new game. Congratulations and I hope it's a big success for you.

I'll pledge to buy the game as soon as it becomes available, based on just the description on the announcement page of your website.

Destiny awaits! :)

TBH I wasn't expecting much since it was called "dungeon crawl" at first. I thought it was going to be another Kivi's, which I'm not a huge fan of. But this announcement has taken me by surprise, and I think it's going to be something different. All I can say is, I am quivering in anticipation now :D

Btw seeing as to how you will "end wars", will diplomacy/dialog be in the game?

Don't worry Din's Curse is going to be closer to DoP than Kivi.

There will be some minor dialog choices like with hostages, but most of this type of thing is through quests and your actions.

Just wanted to add how happy i am with this news, i will most certainly get this game. I've always loved the DC part of DOP and to see a game with a bigger focus on that is really great. Any plans to put this on Steam? I noticed that Kivi isn't, and i think Steam is a great way to get some additional exposure (which i think Soldak very much deserves).

And Impulse too! Don't forget Impulse :)

We will probably try to get Din's Curse on Steam and Impulse.

Hello again,

Will there be any other method of purchasing the game?

I nearly didn't post this and really don't want to begin any kind of flame war about DRM. However, I do want to point out my reasons for feeling this way. If the game is only going to be available via steam or impulse, then there's one definite lost sale with me I'm afraid.

I really cannot justify installing either steam or impulse, partly due to my objection to online activation/DRM methods and partly for practical reasons. I often install games on a laptop which doesn't have an online connection. I had my fingers burned with a Neverwinter Nights addon and the appalling steam customer services when trying to get another game working via steam.

My whole experience with steam was awful and I don't want to ever repeat the performance.

I'm living in hope that there will be other options.

Lealoc

You will be able to buy the game directly from us and we don't use online activation stuff. Impulse or Steam will not be required.

We will try to get on those services for those that prefer them, but it won't be required.

Thank you Shadow. That's good to know :)

I've been reading through the discussions about some of the features of the game and I'm even more keen to buy a copy now. Having been a long time player of the graphical versions of Angband, the dungeon crawl type games are most enjoyable, for the variety and replayability especially.

Hi-

I have Vista Ultimate, I take it that I will not have any problems playing Din's Curse on it? It is a 32 bit.

Thanks

You shouldn't. My main dev computer is a 32 bit Vista machine these days.

Maggie,

Shadow hasn't really released this information. He has stated he wants to get it out before the holidays, but, it's a work in progress!
