Amigurumi are stuffed animals/dolls crocheted from yarn. I've seen Mario (http://arpelia.blogspot.com/2009/04/amazingly-cute-super-mario-amigurumi.html), Zelda (http://www.spritestitch.com/?p=1930), Star Wars (http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/index.php/2008/03/31/star-wars-amigurumi/), Lemmings, Pokemon (http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/amigurumi-pokemon-charmander-and-snorlax-crochet-pattern), and other game related amigurumi and have decided it's time for me to try my hand at making one for Soldak.

My question is - what monster from any Soldak game (Depths of Peril, Kivi's Underworld, Din's Curse) is your favorite monster? Which monster do you thing would make a good amigurumi?

Currently, I'm thinking about a scavenger or a ragnar, although a hulk, fire or ice elemental could be interesting.

That's tough, because those are cute, and the Soldak games aren't really "cute." The dire wolves from DoP might work though. Their body shape is blocky, which is good for a stuffed animal, and their spiky bits could be done in stiff fabric.

Oh, I can crochet spikes. :) No worries there. If I did the scavenger, I'd need to put pipe cleaners in the long horns on its back to hold the shape. Spikes are like little arms, easy to do.

I've made 2 large amigurumi without a pattern, so I'm excited to venture into Soldak land. My only concern is for tall, somewhat narrow monsters that stand on two feet, because I'm not sure how to make them stand.

Oh yeah, I think the Mario amigurumi are adorable! :)

I vote for a Sentinel (they are my favourite looking DoP monster) or a Plaguebringer (I *hate* those annoying things in-game) which I think would lend itself really well to amigurumi adaptation - and they are very distinctly Soldak. You could even include a couple of Plaguespawn ;)

I think the scavenger is a good pick, especially if you model it on the pre-feast variety. When I see a tiny scavenger, I leave it alone (it's adorable!) until I remember what it is and KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL. Beyond that, I second the plaguebringer + larvae notion.

My favorite monster visually is the Death Knight, but I'm not sure it'd translate well to an amigurumi.

The plaguebringer sort of has a hole in its back, so I'd have somewhere to store its little ones. ;) It'd be interesting to do all three versions of the scavenger (is it 3?). A Death Knight would be hard because it floats!

I still haven't decided what I'm going to make, so there's still time to weigh in. I'll probably have to make a decision by Friday the 5th so I can find the right color yarn and spend a bulk of the weekend hooking and pulling loops. :D

Also, I want to take my time with it, take pictures as I go and write up a free pattern.

... It all started with one, but soon Soldak amigurumi shall TAKE OVER THE WORLD! (Take that Pinky and the Brain, take that Stewie Griffin!) :D
