What about having the player decide the maximum depth of a dungeon when creating a new world/town? Would the game allow for that?
Of course, there should be a small penalty for choosing a 'shallow' dungeon over a random or even exceptionally deep one...
Maybe reducing the chance for good drops somewhat or less XP gained from quests...

I agree, having some way to decide depth of some sort would be a welcome addition especially if the essential NPC quests spread out more to make use of all the generated floors (which is a good idea). I think a toggle, in which the player would have a rough estimate in the amount of floors he/she may encounter, in the advanced options section would be good enough for most.
