I rolled a Archer/Trickster last night. While I was selecting skills I realized that the Trickster has Dodge and Evasion skills while the Archer also has a Dodge skill.

Skill stats (i believe these are correct):

Dodge:
+25 Dodge per level
+25 Defense per level

Evasion:
+25 Evade per level
+25 Defense per level

My level 19 character has 3 points into each Dodge (Archer), Dodge (Trickster), and Evasion (Trickster). His defense is near 500 and dodge is very high as well.

There is something like a 25% chance that a level 19 mob will hit me (from dodge I assume) and I absorb about 30% the damage that actually gets through.

It may seem that I am sacrificing survivability for firepower. But my current DPS is around 50. And with the Archer's Exploding Arrow ability that increases damage by 5% and causes an aoe (quite effective).

Anyway, just wondering if this seems a bit of a unbalanced hybrid.

You started last night and are already level 19? What are you doing that I am not?

Really, DPS is misleading when it comes to comparing characters. It doesn't factor in active skills, which may be a significant part of a characters true DPS. My primary character has a written DPS of about a hundred at level 28, but her functional DPS is higher because she has +100% damage from Power Attack, which she uses at every opportunity.

As for defenses, for reference, my sword wielding weaponmaster in mail armor is hit 57% of the time, and absorbs 58% of the damage. In comparison, that means your effective percentage of damage taken versus damage aimed at you is 17.5%, and mine is 23.9%. That doesn't seem too far out of line.

As for my leveling rate, that can be attributed to the ridiculous amount of xp you can gain by playing multiplayer (an issue I play to address in a separate thread shortly).

It may be that my stats are fine, its just that having three skills to increase defense like that kinda alarmed me.

You can also level quickly if you are willing to abandon towns. At the start of a game set the monster level to 24 (or whatever the max is), then just drop in and out of the first level of the dungeon. You get xp for "discovering" a new level, and the xp can be quite high if the difference between you and the monster level is large. Then abandon the game, rinse and repeat. If you have a shared stash full of good equipment you can get a new char going pretty fast. :)

Maybe the discovery xp for new levels shouldn't apply to level 1? That way it eliminates the abuse without the eliminating the reward of going deeper.

Just added my character export to the original post.
