Hey all, just thought this deserves a thread on its own since it's an indie effort that's imho very good.

Darkwind is a post-apocalyptic MMORPG, that's part web-based, and part client-based. Each player manages a gang, and can recruit gang members to participate in various activities: racing, deathracing, arena combats, hunting for pirates (also known as scouting), piracy, trading etc. It's a very sandbox game in the sense that you can really do what you want - there's no endgame, and it's plays on a carrot-on-a-stick format, in the sense that you can never reach the carrot. You are free to do what you want to do, whether your aim is to be the richest player, or to become the most renowned racer gang.

All activities take place in the client, and combat/racing is turn-based. You basically indicate which direction you want the car to go, set the speed, and end turn. It's hard to describe the game, so here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=votjVfDK_OA) a trailer for you to check out.

Another interesting feature about the game is that it's very punishing. If Din's Curse is for masochists, Darkwind is for gluttons for punishment. Death of gang members is permanent, so if you lose a gang member who has been in your gang for 2 years, you can say bye bye to him for good. Or, if one gang member loses an arm, it stays that way and affects his performance for the rest of his lifetime.

So, if you're just looking for something different, do check it out. Like Soldak, it's also a one-man effort, so it's something really commendable.
