View Full Version : "Can't play as monster race"

I seem to have unlocked some races through normal play, but there is an icon with an X over it saying "Can't play as monster race." Is there something else that needs to be unlocked, or is this just a way of taunting me? ;)

The 3 monster subraces aren't playable, so I guess it is taunting you. :)

Upon digging around the files, I found out the reason for them being locked: there's no class data for those 3. Every other subrace has class data, but the 3 monster races have none, and thus are unplayable.

Which brings up an interesting modding idea: add the class data for those 3 subraces to completely fill up the menu. Of course tbh I have no idea how the model upgrades for high command work for player classes, so it may require more work than dashing up a basic class template, pointing it to a monster model, and adding racial traits that sort of match the 3 monster classes. Seeing as how the UI data's already there though, it's not a huge leap to make em into classes.

BTW, loving Drox Operative. So fun :) Hopefully it gets greenlit so my RL friends will actually notice the damn thing (they primarily buy games from Steam, so obscure indie titles with no Steam version sort of fall by the wayside).

The fluff reason that it does not work is that the Talon do not have crew, they are living entities - you can't be a Drox operative in a ship, you would have to be the ship.

The Overlords and Legion could have crew, but they wouldn't have other races aboard. The Overlord would infect and convert everyone, and the Legion would kill the living, and I guess reprogram the Uthopians.

But the more I think about it, the more I believe that the Drox Guild would be quite fine with employing T/O/L ships.
