We now have a Drox Operative demo for Linux! If you are a Linux user, go check out the demo now. You can download the demo from the Drox Operative demo page (http://www.soldak.com/Drox-Operative/demo.html). We would also love to get feedback on how the demo runs on your specific distribution and what, if anything, you needed to do to get it to work.

Thanks for supporting Linux!
I am definitely going to try the Drox Operative demo on two of my machines.
I'll leave feedback with the results of the demo.

I tried it on Mint 16 on a laptop using AMD graphics and running open drivers, and it seems not to work with them, this is what I saw:

My test box is using open drivers on an old ATI/AMD card, so I don't think it is only that. You might want to open up your ~/.local/DroxOperativeDemo/User/log.txt file and see if it says anything relevant in there.

Ok, I've got a lot of Couldn't find Textures there, not sure what I can do about that, though...

Can you email me (http://www.soldak.com/Company/Contact.html) your log.txt file?

From the log file, there are 2 problems.

First, the game doesn't find S3/DTXC texture compression support. This you might be able to fix. For me on Ubuntu 12.04 I had to do something like this:
sudo apt-get install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0

After it finds no texture compression support, it uncompresses all of the textures into rtx files, which is what it is suppose to do. However, for some reason it then can't find the files it just created. I need to look into this problem.

Yes, that was the problem, silly me, forgot to add it after reinstall. Anyway, now it works perfect, fullscreen and window, switches resolution etc. Can't find anything wrong with it :)

Any chance you will port later Din's curse too for fantasy lovers? :)

Is the package named libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 on Mint?

Also have you been able to actually play a ship successfully for a little while? Another Mint user is having some issues.

I will probably port Din's Curse to Linux.

Mint uses the same repos as Ubuntu, so the package is there, although this is not the full implentation of s3tc (legal reasons), full (and thus faster) one is in package libtxc-dxtn0 but it is not in main repos it's in PPA: xorg-edgers :)

I was able to play the game with no problems, flying around etc. Obviously did not play for a long time yet, but so far absolutely no stability issues.

Oh, and - wonderful news about Din's Curse, that's probably my favourite game so far :)

Ok, I'm pretty sure I've fixed the second half of the problem, so this should be fixed whenever I do another build of the demo. This is not a problem that happens in the full game (it's caused by file limitations of the demo).

Oh, btw, is your Mint 32 or 64 bit?

This one is 32bit as my laptop has ony 2GB of RAM :)

I ran Drox Operative this morning really quick. Here are my results...

Success:
Linux Mint 16 32-bit (based on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucey)
GeForce 550 Ti
Nvidia 319 drivers

Failed:
Chromebook ChrUbuntu (based on Ubuntu 12.10)
Intel HD 2000
Intel Drivers

No surprise the Intel HD 2000 GPU failed. The game actually launched but all I could see are sprites with "X"
Dins Curse doesn't run either in PlayOnLinux.

The next version of the demo might fix the sprites with "X" issue.

Is there a way to show the debug or an output to see why Intel HD is getting these errors?
I have a feeling is a shader issue. That HD 2000 doesn't support shader 2.0 I think

You can look in ~/.local/DroxOperativeDemo/User/log.txt to see more of what is going on.

I just uploaded a new version of the demo though. Can you grab the latest version of the demo and see if it works on your Chromebook?

Din's curse! Yes... That would make me very very happy!
If I already own a copy do I still have to purchase the Linux version?

Sure, I will do that...
I'm not getting email notifications even though Instant Notification was selected
