It occurred to me the other day that our upcoming zombie game will be our 3rd game to have some kind of clans, however each one works very differently.

We have covenants in Depths of Peril. These covenants are in a direct competition to become leaders of their town. Barbarians essentially "elect" their leaders through combat to the death. You have to deal with the other covenants in order to win. They are a constant threat, especially since they are based in the same town and can raid your house at a moments notice.

The races in Drox Operative work like clans, but the player isn't really part of any of them. The player is a freelance Operative that works between the races. The races war, trade, and in general fight to control the galaxy, but the player isn't in the direct line of fire. Although it is very easy to get sucked into the conflicts.

In our upcoming Zombie game, the player again controls their own clan. There are other clans in the world, but unlike DoP, the other clans aren't direct competition for you. You don't have to destroy or ally with them to win. That doesn't mean that you can ignore them though. There are a finite amount of resources easily available and you just might be an easy target or they just might not like you very much.

You don't HAVE to destroy or ally with them to win, but is this a possibility? I.E. is it possible to play the game more like DoP or is it not even an option to engage in war with the other clans?

Yes, you can war or ally with the other clans.

Awesome. So you are sort of mixing DoP with Drox, in a way. With the Din's Curse ARPG depth, of course.

Yeah, it's going to have elements of Depths of Peril, Din's Curse, and Drox Operative.

So if you are allied with a clan, would that involve some sort of resource sharing deal? Perhaps even a pooling of resources?

I'm not sure exactly what you will be able to trade/pool quite yet.

Actually, I think all the games (except Kivi?) have some of this. Din's Curse takes it another level -- the town is under your protection, so that's your "clan". The warring monster clans are down in the dungeon, as the monsters actually have the ability to hate each other and go to war amongst themselves. Sleight of Hand works on these relationships in the microcosm, but there are events that can drive different monster races to duke it out with each other.... You just don't have very much control over it overall... you have much more influence in the relations in the other games.

(Yesterday I was having fun using Stealth and Sleight of Hand to make 2 bosses fight each other until there was only 1 left...made my job much easier.)
