View Full Version : How do I get started modding?

I have almost no idea. Do I need modding tools? Is there a guide somewhere that I haven't been able to find?
I'm on linux too, which probably makes things tricky.

The best way to start is to read the mod page for Drox (http://www.soldak.com/Drox-Operative/mods.html). There are a few tools and they are Windows only, but they just deal with models and fonts. Everything else shouldn't matter that you are on Linux.

Shadow, after finding things about the game I really want to change (insanity), I'm looking through systems.gdb. I can see the following:
My understanding of this is:
- A family member turning into a zombie causes sanity to rise by 5.
- seeing the turn causes 2.5 sanity gain.
But the FriendsMult is what I'm really interested in - does it mean friends of the zombie will have double the effect? Because I had a town full of people on less than 50 sanity (2 of them were in mid-50s), and the majority of them went insane from one NPC turning (7 out of 13). Is it possible more than one of the insanity conditions is applying? (eg KilledFamily is applying as well as TurnedZombie).
Edit: It's amazing how much ability there is to mod this game.

InsanityChangeNpcTurnedZombieFriendsMult is used to figure out how much to add to insanity based on how much they liked the victim. The like value used is relation - 50 and that value is multiplied by the mult value.
I could have sworn these values were lower. These seem way too high. If I'm not forgetting something, I think I'm going to lower these (there are other similar mults) a good bit for the next patch.

Thanks, that is brilliant! The insanity bomb has been one of my major problems with this (quite brilliant) game.
