So this has been brought up a few times, but it is actually super weird that we spend all our time shopping and fighting monsters when the game is "about" galactic race conflict. In 30 levels I've seen exactly one quest that involved harming another race: supplying weapons to a rebellion. I think there's potential here.

Cause [strife] on [planet name]
Destroy colony on [planet]
Destroy X [race] ships
Break/prevent treaty between [race] and [race]
Bankrupt [planet]
Bring us [technology] (can be stolen or traded for from race)
Prevent [race] colonization of [planet] (basically the race will send colony ships for a while)
Destroy the [race] champion (would require race champions)
Damage [race]'s economy
Escort war fleet to [planet]
Install a [bad machine] near [planet]
Break treaty with [race] (You know how when a race you're at war with is losing, they'll demand that you betray your ally even though there's no reason you'd do that? What if there was a huge reward? Would you take the chance of losing? How many double-crosses can you get away with?)
What about items that let you disguise yourself as another race?

What about fake Drox Operatives who show up to mess with your reputation? You'd have to track them down to protect your good name. You could have special Drox Operative quests for things like that; there's room on the Relations screen.

I'm just brainstorming here, but the game does need more focus on the races.

I like pretty much all of these ideas!

I know that there are more than just start a rebellion quests to mess with other races... I think I've seen some 'sabotage [race]' quests as well.

But in general there could be a lot more 'mess with/attack other races' to really make you choose a side and get the conflict going.

I see too! You have hit the point! Shadow, care about this!

To add some ideas for quests:

- Find out if a race is planning on attacking us.
- Sabotage that race's attack fleet (before it gets going).
- Stop that race's attack fleet (would generally be very difficult).
- Take a race's leader as hostage (paralyzes the race for a while and could cause a race to break apart into sub-races).
- Free a sub-race, causing damage to an enemy race.
- Use super-weapon on a race (may be in the game already?)
- Give false information to a race (causing them to send their attack fleet to the wrong planet, at which point the quest-givers can attack)
- Set up an ambush for a race (you attack and draw their fire, at which point the quest-givers outflank the enemy)

Lots of good ideas in here. I am planning on doing some things like this.

Agreed and glad to see Shadow onboard as well. This game needs to focus more on the friction between the races. I have lost count of the times I have wished my allies would fly with me to attack the remaining enemy race's planets. It seems like often time they go to war and then do... well nothing. Instead of worrying about terraforming, let's worry about the war.

Rebels could perhaps if the rebellion gets strong enough form their own splinter race and go to war with others and their previous race rulers. Other ideas look solid

"Bigger", nearby, or disliked races could be more likely targets for these quests.

A race caught sabotaging another race might immediately put out a quest on them, even if they haven't been pushed to outright dislike yet.

This can happen.
