The presence of game.mnu in 'C:\Program Files\Depths of Peril\Assets\UI' appears to prevent my up/down arrows from controlling the history messages.
I think this has been mentioned before, but I don't know if it was ever fully resolved. I just want to turn off the blinking on that win icon. :(

The up/down keys are actually referenced in that particular file. So if your new version of the file doesn't have them setup correctly, it will break. Did you copy game.mnu from assets001 or assets003? You want the one from assets003.

Perfect. Now I've just got to win a game and see if my tinkering worked. ;)
I'm guessing each asset file is loaded sequentially, with each new file overriding the previous; presumably followed by reading any loose files which would override the asset zips. Would that be accurate?

Yes, if the game finds a file located in multiple places it will use a loose file first and then the file that is found in the highest number asset file.
