Hi all, sorry to make my first post a bug report, but I'm dying to play DoP and I need a little help getting it going! I just read the review of DoP in PC Gamer (UK) and jumped off the bog to download it. I forget whether it was the full or demo version I downloaded - it's 89mb and called DepthsOfPerilSetup.exe

Anyway, I installed it last night and launched it fine. I adjusted all my game options the way I like, then had to shut down the PC (nagging wife etc!).

This morning when I tried it, I got to the "Grit Games" splash screen with the try/buy options and the 'time played' timer (116m left), but after clicking "Play Game" the splash disapears and I get an MS Error Reporting dialouge. After clicking yes or no to this, the splash screen returns and an endless cycle of splash/crash begins.

I tried creating a user.cfg with logfile 2 in it, but the resulting file was blank! Here's what MS had to say:

I'm runing Win XP Home SP2. Background tasks are Avast Anti-Virus, Zone Alarm and Azureus. Uninstall/reinstall didn't help. Any advice here would be much appreciated as DoP looks terrific!

Thanks,

BH :)

Well since I can't tell if it is a problem with the game or Reflexive's wrapper, I would download and try our version from our demo page (http://www.soldak.com/Depths-of-Peril/Demo.html).

Thanks Shad, I'm downloading it now. Interestingly, I got it running again last night under exactly the same conditions - 10:30pm, wife lurking, ready to strike. But again this morning, in the cold light odf day with the missus out shopping and the place to myself, it failed again. I tried resetting my system clock on the off-chance, but that didn't work. I reckon it's my wife that causes the load/fail factor here. :D

Edit: "DoPdemo3.exe" failed as well. Oh! Half an hour later, it worked! Which would be moer useful as a 'proper' bug report, the user.cfg file or log.txt? Log.txt just says

Opened Generic Hardware Device
Using 23 sound sources
Sound system initialized
Input initialized
Debug system started
Input initialized

whereas user.cfg seems more interesting.

Btw, the game is fantastic! :)

Usually the log.txt is better although in this case it doesn't tell me much. Does the game crash? If so does Windows give you a crash address?

Most of the time when the game has startup issues it has been sound driver related (for the demo at least). I would go and update your sound drivers.
