Hey ho!

Thanks for this nice game. I'm having serious fun playing it, but right now, Im not quite sure. I am level 41 right now, and as you can see below, I am wearing some absurd gear (traded it with level 100 covenants by spending an hour or so refreshing games). The stuff I find by killing monsters atm (although they are like 10 levels above me) is kinda ridiculous, the bonusses are really nothing compared to what I'm wearing. So its a bit lame atm! :D I always thought the most attractive way to find items was to 'find' them in the wilderness, the so-called 'w00t' experience. But it seems that by farming a bit, and then spending some time trading with level 40/60/100 covenants, mainly scouting for +str/+agi gear, you can just pwnz0rize everybody. It now takes me like 20 minutes to levelup, doing only quests that give 10k exp or more (mainly storylines above my current level). Because of my level and gear, I kill level 50 monsters. They give me about 300 experience a kill, and I kill them *fast*. So why bother with 'Cure Oslo' for 280XP? Or 'Help the armorsmith gather 10 leaves' for 800XP? I skip the mainstoryline straight to Turen, shank-ar Lute, gather Black Dahlia's etc - those give 10-20k XP. The adventuring part is a bit over: the game lost its 'serious' touch.

So main point: level requirements on items = perhaps a good idea :D

And now, when I'm posting anyway:
- make set items more attractive: the (partial) set bonusses are a joke
- make unique/artifact items have 'unique' properties - they arent any better then uncommon/rare items.
- no lifesteal? aww :D
- Nothing beats a hireling priest with a +110 vitality buff, doubling my hitpoints. Kinda boring.

Here's my hero at level 41.

I knew as soon as I was level 15 or so that I could abuse the game mechanics like this, and I intentionally chose not to start a game over 15 levels above me. It's a catch 22, because if you keep your opponents at your level, it's easy, but if you go high, you can easily trade for equipment that blows any world drops away.

With a game like this, with explotation and AI so easy, you basically have to make a choice not to cheat to enjoy the game, because abusing the game mechanics is far too easy. Level requirements is something I would approve of.

I created a small challenge mod (http://www.soldak.com/Depths-of-Peril/Mods/Challenge-Mod.html) for those of you that find the game too easy. The link will tell you what has changed, what to download, and where to put the mod for it to work.

Inside the mod's zip file is only 1 text file with very few lines, so if you wanted to it would be very easy to modify to make it as hard as you want.
