Fire Mage Fire Elemental usage

I have a dual fire mage I've been messing with and I got to wondering about the fire elemental spell.

First, the game says it lasts 3 seconds. Which seems a typo because when I timed it, he disappeared in 30 seconds.

But, does the skill really seem useful? 30 seconds gives you a quick boss fight maybe or a distraction while I run around a corner, but otherwise it seems a little short lived.

Compare that with the Summon Fury spell that costs the same, but the fury stays and heals himself and it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the skill.

Has anybody else found uses for the Fire Elemental skill? Is the point to make the elemental tougher but not last as long? I haven't compared the actual stats of the summon yet.
