Listen for the trap sound and run like the wind. If it's a purple blast trap you'll probably eat it anyway, but you can usually outrun just about anything else.

Also, the SPI bonus skills give you enhanced resistances. Can't hurt.

I heard the sound so I run swiftly like an EAGLE hehe!! but the circular radius of the Fire Trap chased me like hell and put me to sleep.. It activated immediately.. It just happened so fast..

OMG!!! That's very cool. I'm trying to play a hardcore mage, and at level 10 I'm very frustrated. I'm working double time to keep him alive and I don't like it. I'm half a mind to leave him and start a new priest.

See, and thats exactly why I abandoned the priest. After playing warrior for so long the priest was practically unkillable. The mage was the only class that requried me to relearn how to play. With a mage you have to learn how to AE and not die, when to portal, how to kill bosses that can one shot you instantly, which I dub the "dual portal" defense:

The width of distance between portal and zone portal is two squares wider than the max distance range of my AE attack. Basically you drag the boss to the area, use AE's until boss is about to attack you, then portal out, heal, and portal in using the other portal. Boss will still be at the previous portal, but since you're still in AE range, you can pretty much continuously AE damage all enemies of any strength without fear of being attacked.

The only boss that mages cannot kill with an AE spec is one with triple regeneration. I made a choice to also avoid all "meeting between X and Y" quests, because that requires death without using portals and Require a lot of healing potions.

I also learned early on to avoid all zones that are 4 levels higher than you, especially with Guardians or Spiders. Little common sense and mages are pretty darn easy to level. They do require concentration, and IF I manage to kill him, I will cry because he's over level 25 now.
