Default praise and nitpicking

Hi all,

Just bought the game (fall sale!) and it's very cool. As a DoP veteran I thought DO to be a re-skin of DoP and kind of held off on getting it, but I was wrong on that. It's awesome. Intimidating, but very cool. I have some minor gripes though. For one, having items 'drop' (make a falling motion) on to the plane is weird. And using the same money sound as in DC/DoP is off putting. I suppose I can fix that myself through some modding but still. Second, lots of dark ships against a dark background... apparently not a big deal for most but often I only see an enemy ship because of the exhaust trail. Adjusting brightness is not a fix for this as it makes everything else too bright (now that I think about it, it probably has something to do with my ATI CCC contrast settings, I'll try changing that). Anyway, having good fun with this, so onwards.

I agree with your gripes; those thing could have been done better.

Some of the ships are indeed pretty dark and hard to see against the backdrops that are also dark. Space can be a pretty dark place, but not all the backdrops are dark. You probably know this, but playing the game in a dimly lit room can help visibility a great deal, although I realize that's not always possible.
