Default AI Progression Too Fast

I've begun a new character in 0.911 and I keep running into the same problem in each new galaxy. One dominant AI empire neutralizes another before I've explored 3 systems, and then it just steamrolls right through the others in no time.

The default settings should be tailored for a casual pace of advancement, but right now the whole background 4X game is quickly decided and that is making it no fun.

Game Speed is already a setting available when you start a sector.

I believe that affects the speed that events and quests happen -- not the speed at which races expand, or the speed of their colony ships etc.

The game is decided in the first little while and then it's just a matter of playing through to the end? It really is a 4X simulator!

i find that the tide really can turn against the leading race - much much more than in earlier versions. but if the little guy is going to get ahead you really got to get up close and personal with the dominant race (i.e. go to war for the underdog). What have you got to loose? taking this kind of approach wins you the higher rewards from the smaller races quests and will lead you nicely towards a fear or economic win - even if the sector dosn't play out as you hoped.

however, i think the whole races desire and go to war process was sped up a little during the change to the military only win condition... and i think your right that now, given the other optional play styles, the progression speed of races falling out and going to war (not the chance of occurring, only the speed) could be slowed down a little bit to give the operative more chance to intervene and change the sector. However, if this was to happen i would still like to see the RNG throw in some nice events from time to time to keep rapid or even unexpected progression to war in the game sometimes... ie. 'a hive commander just opened fire on a human cruiser and war has been declared!!'
