Aha! I've been experiencing exactly that! I shelved DC just yesterday because it was such a PITA to try to survive for more than 5 seconds when ascending/descending or trying to tackle a monster invading town. Started getting very frustrating even when I ratcheted the difficulty way down.
Icecaster, focused on mastery. I think I'm in my 30's or so.
I even tried to buff out Ice Armor, but it lasts for a minute or two and has a time-out of five. Plus with +40, +80 or so armor, three quarters of my equipment is better.
Maybe it is mod time for me...
