Multiplayer maximum number of players?

How many players can you cram into a sector? Asking for a group of friends.

I've tried finding this information through various searches but have turned up blank. Thank you for your time!

Overall there is not a set amount. When you start a server, you can set the max amount to whatever you want. It mostly boils down to how fast the hosting server is and their bandwidth.
