Default Character Type classification

Hi

I'm new to DC (Loving it) and messing around with hybrids currently, I have read alot of posts about good/bad hybrids. However I would like some clarification on something.

Many talk about defensive/offensive classes. While some are obvious and this may seem like a dumb question. Could someone possibly tell me which classes are defensive and which are offensive? Also some help with identifying strength and finesse fighters would be great. Again sorry if this seems like an obvious answer.

Also it would be very useful if there was a list somewhere of the world modifiers and their effects, I have looked but can't see one.

Thanks in advance

p.s this forums is great.

This only addresses some of what you ask, but it might help a little:

And this is from Soldak's site which also may help some:

If you've already seen this information already, sorry. And I'm not very sure your other points can be answered. Maybe Shadow or Bluddy can answer them.

With respect to the question of defensive and offensive classes, I suspect that this is very subjective and dependent upon play style. In my experience, nearly every class can be made into a good defensive or a good offensive class if they are geared right. Part of the beauty of Din's Curse is being able to make a mage who is also a warrior, for example.

Just that the hybris advise says that a combination of 2 offensive or 2 defensive isn't such a good idea, (it can work but much harder lol and atm i just want easy fun.)

so just wondering what they classified as that. Although I do realise you can alter it a lot, they have base passives that they have are geared towards ore offensive or defensive I presume?

If you mean which skill trees are offensive or defensive in nature, the best way is to just browse the different skill trees when making a Hybrid.

Skill trees like Weaponmaster and Fire Mage are obvious choices for offense. Various ways to do damage.

The Trickster skill tree could be considered a defensive one. It has two skills, Dodge and Evasion, to increase defensive stats.

One thing to also take note of is the passive traits at the top of each skill tree. Trickster gives .8 defense per point of dexterity, while Thief gives 1.3 defense per point of dexterity. Thief also has a skill that simply gives you more dex on top of whatever stat points you put into dex. So, Thief is a skill tree with some defensive traits.

Another thing that's a personal preference of mine is to have some ability to do ranged damage. Many barrels and locked doors can be trapped. There's also those mushrooms that release poison clouds. I'd much rather bash those things from a distance. Rarely, you can have such things blocking hallways.

Any of the hybrids can be defensive and still powerful or vice versa. I like to think of class types as this-

Take an Assassin/Warden as an example. You can raise your stats with 2 strength, 1 dexterity and 2 vitality every lvl and have a barbarian/brute fighter that is a high damage dealer and still a tank with shields and wards and such.

Or you could put 1 into strength, 3 into dexterity, and 1 into vitality for a more finesse fighter that has high chance to hit/be hit, high deep wounds and overall more survivability.

The stats you get per level affect everything and really have unlimited choices. You could add 1 to strength, 2 to dexterity, 1 to vitality and 1 to intelligence for a critical hit fighter like I did in Depths of peril for my rogue.

The choices go on. I was thinking of making a spirit based fighter for a hybrid. Of course shadow would probably need to add stunning percentage with function to spirit. Either way the choices are still limitless.

All of the known world modifiers are listed in the upper left corner of the map screen. You can see what each one does by hovering your mouse over them. There are some secret world modifiers that never get displayed, though.
